Riding waves of change at the J-Bay Classic 2024

Riding waves of change at the J-Bay Classic 2024

Crisp winter sunrises behind dew dropped aloes. The crunch of shells and solid magma underfoot. A board under your arm, the horizon hidden behind wave after perfect wave grinding down this beautiful curve of sand and rock - Belinda Carlisle may have said it best in '87 because (ooh) Heaven is a place on earth! Surfer's worldwide hold this little slice of South African paradise as one of the most precious and celebrated pieces of coastline in the world, and gravitate towards it like moths to a flame as the long period swells light up the winter coastline. This year, Sealand is beyond stoked to be heading up the coast for the premier South African surfing contest of the year!

The J-Bay Classic, held annually in the picturesque town of Jeffreys Bay, is more than just a surfing competition; it's a celebration of the ocean, the community, and the thrill of riding the perfect wave. With a history that dates back to the early 1980s, this prestigious event has drawn the world’s best surfers to South Africa’s shores, turning Jeffreys Bay into a beacon for surf culture and natural beauty. This year, some of the best men and women from not only the WSL tour, but ALL TIME (including the first J-Bay Pro winner from 1985, Mark Occhilupo!) will be assembling to compete in a conventional and twin fin division for the crowning glory of being the best surfer - at the best wave in the world.

At Sealand, surfing is more than a sport—it’s a way of life. As surfers ourselves, we understand the profound connection between riding the waves and preserving our natural spaces. Surfing brings us so much joy, on so many levels, and we cannot wait to head up the coast again! This year, we’re thrilled to be an associate sponsor of the J-Bay Classic 2024, a role that aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and community.

Sealand's Involvement: More Than Just a Sponsor

Our presence at the J-Bay Classic is multifaceted and deeply rooted in our values. We’re not just here to support the competition; we’re here to make a meaningful impact. At our vibrant stall, you’ll find a range of rad upcycled and recycled Sealand gear, including our unique limited edition Airs For Good t-shirt - designed exclusively for this event. But that’s just the beginning.

We’re particularly excited about our annual Sealand Airs For Good airshow. This special contest isn’t just about showcasing impressive surfing skills; it’s about giving back. For every air landed by the surfers, Sealand will donate up to 3 GIVE bags to a local community initiative. It’s our way of connecting the exhilaration of the sport with the spirit of giving and community support.

Why We’re Here: Celebrating South Africa

Jeffreys Bay is more than a premier surf spot; it's a microcosm of South Africa’s unparalleled beauty. The J-Bay Classic captures the essence of our country’s natural charm, and as a proudly South African brand, Sealand is honored to be part of this legacy.

Our presence here is not just about sponsoring an event; it's about fostering a connection between people and the planet. It's about bringing together like-minded individuals in our pursuit of sun, surf, sustainability - and stoke. We believe in the power of community, the importance of preserving our environment, and the joy of surfing these world class waves. This competition is a testament to what makes South Africa extraordinary—its waves, its landscapes, and its people.

The recent years have been tumultuous for the J-Bay Classic, but Sealand is proud to remain unwavering and committed in our support of what we firmly believe is some of the best our country has to offer!

Whether you’re riding the waves or watching from the shore, the J-Bay Classic offers a unique opportunity to experience the magic of surfing and the spirit of giving. Join us in Jeffreys Bay, feel the adrenaline, embrace the community, and help us make a difference. Together, we turn every wave into a wave of change. Together, we make our planet better.
