Sealand and Ampli Energy: A Sustainable Partnership for the Future!

Sealand and Ampli Energy: A Sustainable Partnership for the Future!

We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership between Sealand and Ampli Energy, powered by Discovery Green and Sasol, marking a significant step towards a sustainable future!

This exciting collaboration will see four Sealand locations integrating renewable energy through an innovative energy wheeling system. Not only will this power our operations with clean energy, but it also offers unique benefits.

Key highlights of this partnership:

  1. Renewable Energy Integration: Four Sealand locations will now utilise renewable energy sources, contributing to a greener environment.
  2. Energy Wheeling System: An advanced energy wheeling system will be implemented, optimising energy distribution and efficiency.
  3. Cash Back Rewards: Users receive cash back, making sustainability both environmentally and financially rewarding.

This scheme enables us - and other SMMEs - to access electricity at a lower price point, as renewables are cheaper than current Eskom prices per kilowatt hour. This works well at scale, and holds true for large-scale generation, but historically installing renewable generation capacity and storage on-site has required large upfront investment - out of the reach of small to medium sized businesses. By bringing more capacity onto the grid, virtually allocating this and arranging off take agreements with Sasol for any extra power, Discovery Green has provided us and others with the ability to access renewable energy in the most cost-effective and easy way. They have added 150MW to the grid with the Msenge Emoyeni Wind Farm in the first tranche, and are already looking to add more!

A secondary benefit to increasing the reliability, and decreasing the cost of electricity is in powering SA’s economic growth. A white paper by Krutham estimates that if SMMEs could save 20% of the R150bn they spend on electricity each year, the freed up R30.2bn could lead to a growth of 52 721 jobs per year as this capital is redeployed into growth.

Sealand is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and embracing sustainable practices. This partnership with Ampli Energy aligns perfectly with our vision for a more environmentally conscious future - and the ability to do so without having to navigate tricky Heritage Building regulations and space constraints in our physical locations.

We hope to continue adding stores to this scheme and watching as Discovery Green revolutionises the energy landscape in South Africa!
